First a great book by Anne Rice, second a great film! Starring the gorgeous Stuart Townsend and fabulous Vincent Perez (pictured left) it is the story of Akasha, queen of the vampires, and Lestat, the vampire wishing he were mortal. Waking from his hundred year rest Lestat finds himself a band and before anyone knows it 'The Vampire Lestat' is the biggest band on the planet. Unknown to him, his music has awoken the sleeping Akasha, played by Aaliyah. Making her way to the concert she takes Lestat to be her king. Elsewhere, the vampire elders - Marius, Maharet, Armand, Pandora and Mael - are protecting Maharet's neice Jesse and planning the downfall of the vampire queen. Arriving at the elder's retreat Akasha sets about ordering Lestat to kill Jesse. He drains her, then proceeds to do the same tio Akasha. Realising his plan the elders folow his lead, with Maharet drinking the queen's last drop and becoming a living statue. In order to save Jesse's life he turns her, and together they bid their goodbye to Jesse's friend and collegue David, leaving him with Marius as they walk off into the night!
